Sisters Mary Palmer Riordan and Elizabeth Palmer Mentzer have penned Goodbye Forever: Notes from the Great Adventure, an edition of their letters home written during six-months of travel, study and work in Europe in 1966. The youthful enthusiasm, innocence and homesickness reflected in their letters reflects what seems a by-gone era, when it was okay to hitch-hike, when accepting help from strangers didn’t seem an invitation to disaster.
